iPhone Generations Timeline from 2007 to 2023: History of Apple Phones

Apple was established in 1976; since then, it has been one of the leading computer and smartphone industry companies.
The company has its flagship in making personal computers, proprietary operating systems, and aesthetically pleasing features. The most surprising part of the 1sth iPhone Generation is that Apple’s First iPhone didn’t support video recording with a 2MP back camera.

Yet the first iPhone supported quad-band GSM, proximity sensor, and iPhone’s operating system (iOS), which syncs up emails, notes, iTunes, and bookmarks using phone designs. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak endowed Apple.

Since the launch of the first Apple product, the company has prevailed in the industry. However, despite the ups and downs in the business, Apple never stepped back. Consequently, the company became the first publicly traded company to garner a market capitalization of $1 trillion in August 2018.

Moreover, the company launched its last rival – iPhone 12, on October 13, 2020, in a virtual event. Learning the buzz and overwhelming excitement of iPhone users, we came up with this writing that covers all the iPhone generations.

So, since its inception in 2007, let’s recap all the series of iPhones launched and how Apple’s flagship phone evolved through different generations.

1st Generation (2007)

IPhone

A Macworld convention in 2007 was held in San Francisco, where Apple launched its first iPhone to revolutionize the mobile phone industry. Apple made a daring move at the moment by giving a mobile without a plastic keyboard which was prominent in mobiles of that time.

This iPhone debut mobile had three unique features; a widescreen iPod, a mobile phone, and a breakthrough internet communication device. Furthermore, the phone had a 2MP back camera and a 3.5-inch multi-touch screen of excellent quality resolution of 165 pixels per inch.

The most surprising part of the 1sth iPhone Generation is that Apple’s First iPhone didn’t support video recording with a 2MP back camera. Yet the first iPhone supported quad-band GSM, proximity sensor, and iPhone’s operating system (iOS), which syncs up emails, notes, iTunes, and bookmarks.

Again in his black turtleneck, Steve Jobs launched the new iPhone 3G at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9, 2008. The 2nd Generation of the iPhone claimed the tagline of “Twice as Fast at Half the Price.”

The price of the iPhone was kept as low as possible while accelerating internet speed with 3G. Furthermore, the phone was updated with built-in GPS and iPhone 2.0 iOS software that supported Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

It is not wrong to call iPhone 4 as first Selfie mobile phone as it brought a front camera of 0.3 Mega Pixels and a 5 MP back camera. This time, Apple also paid attention to finishing details by introducing the glass and stainless steel thinnest body mobile.

With the release of the iPhone 4, there were many rounds of rumors. One of these rumors was true, that was revealing all details before the official announcement. The real trouble began when Apple’s software engineer accidentally left the iPhone 4 prototype in the bar.

And then, a popular tech magazine Gizmodo bought it from the bar patron for only $5000. Thus, Apple went for legal charges and inaction taken by the Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team.

Summing Up:

The world’s best mobile phone brand started the journey of iPhone production with the motto “Apple reinvents the phone.” The primary focus tends to emphasize novel design and user-friendly interfaces in all the best iPhones to buy. Thus, the entire Apple iPhone lineup is found to be the ideal smartphone for Gen Z.

However, Apple has been in hot water since the first iPhone launch date. The famous lawsuit Smith v.Apple Inc. sought an injunction barring Apple from selling iPhone mobiles with a unique software lock.
Likewise, Apple always manages to get it through, whether it was about Antennagate, Bendgate, or Touch Disease in Eighth Generation.2nd Generation (2008)

So, the Apple phone history began with a phone that supports no video, and now it provides users with a flagship phone with a triple camera array and LiDAR sensor to make a movie for theatrical releases.
